Robert L. Vernon, 90, of Parkersburg, died December 10, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born April 23, 1920 in Porterfield, Ohio a son of the late Charles and Edna Alloway Vernon.
He was a graduate of PHS and was a US Army Veteran of WWII, serving overseas in the South Pacific. He retired as a Lieutenant from the Parkersburg Fire Department and also from Mister Bee Potato Chip Company. He was a lifelong member of Stephenson United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Suzanne (Dave) Shawver of Parkersburg, Linda (Pete) Butcher of Parkersburg; five grandchildren, Julie (Jay) Bertram, Lisa (Dale) Moore, Erica (Mike) Mathess, Andrew "Buddy" (Jennifer) Butcher, Jan (John) Tennant; seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Bradford Vernon and brother, Lawrence Vernon.
Services will be Monday 11:00 AM at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Reverend Mona M. Jackson officiating.
Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday 1-4pm at the funeral home.
